FPinfomart Heartbeat – Workflow Management

Posted by Jennifer Stein on May 30, 2011

FPinfomart Heartbeat contains a Workflow Management tool that provides several key tools:

  • Add internal comments to any item – such as notes, to-do items, suggested follow up, etc.
  • Assign follow-up on any item to another Heartbeat user
  • Get notified by e-mail if a colleague assigns an item to you
  • E-mail a link to any item to any e-mail address
  • Respond via Twitter to any Tweet, and keep a record of your response with the original item

When you hover over any hit in the Your Heartbeats tab, a “Manage Workflow” bar pops up.  Click the plus sign to open the Workflow tools.

From here, you can enter any notes for yourself, or others.  Any user from your organization will be able to see these notes when they view this result.  Optionally, drop down the “select a user” pull-down and choose another Heartbeat user if you’d like to assign responsibility for this item.  You’ll also find a link to e-mail an item to any e-mail address, from within the Manage Workflow tools.

Workflow

Open the Manage Workflow tools to add any notes, and optionally assign the item to a colleague.

If you’ve added any notes to the item, they’ll appear whenever your mouse hovers over that item.  These notes will also appear to all other Heartbeat users within your company, so you can use this feature as a collaboration tool.

Workflow

Notes have been left on this item.

If you plan to use the assign-to-colleague functionality, you may wish to take advantage of the e-mail alert functionality.  This allows you to be notified by e-mail if someone uses Workflow Management to assign an item to you.

If you encounter a Twitter result to which you’d like to @reply, click the Contents icon next to the Tweet.  The first time you do this, you’ll be prompted to follow a few easy steps to connect your Twitter account to your Heartbeat account.  Once you’ve linked Twitter to your Heartbeat login, clicking the Contents icon will pop up a Twitter response box, where you can post your @reply directly from within Heartbeat.  This unifies your inbound and outbound Twitter activities in a single platform, with the added advantage of logging your response inline with the hit.  You can then refer back to your response in future, and, your colleagues who log in to Heartbeat can see that an item has been responded to (and what that response was).

Twitter reponse via Heartbeat workflow

Respond on Twitter from within the Heartbeat interface, and automatically keep a record of your response.

The Workflow Management tools in FPinfomart Heartbeat offer you a collaborative workspace with which to log activities, interact with your colleagues, assign responsibility for follow-up, and Tweet, all within your results set.

Chargeable broadcast clicks now more clearly identified in results

Posted by Jennifer Stein on May 26, 2011

With the increase in popularity of our Broadcast Monitoring services, many of our customers are in the novel situation of having an “all you can eat” subscription for the news portions of FPinfomart but paying transactionally for the broadcast (TV and/or radio) content they consume through our service.  We understand that this can be confusing, especially to newer users who may not be aware that some clicks are “free” while others result in a charge.

While we do display a warning the FIRST time you click a broadcast item, the “broadcast notice” is not repeated after you’ve accepted acknowledgement of the notice.

To assist you in understanding when or if clicking on a broadcast hit will result in a charge, we are now displaying a dollar symbol ($) to the right of any program title which would result in a transactional charge upon opening this item.

Chargeable broadcast item with dollar sign.

The dollar symbol will only display next to those items transactionally chargeable for YOUR subscription, and ONLY:

  • If you are a “Special Edition” subscriber
  • On “peek” results throughout the FPinfomart.ca site
  • In items in summary-format e-mail Alerts

The dollar symbol will NOT be displayed:

  • For “Infomart Web” subscribers (because all content clicks on Infomart Web are transactionally charged)
  • In Newsletters
  • In RSS feeds or HTML Homepages (Intranet Toolkit)

We hope that the addition of this indicator will assist you in reducing “accidental” clicks on chargeable content.

Copyright & Social Media

Posted by Jennifer Stein on May 19, 2011

Copyright symbolAs a member of a publishing company, we at FPinfomart are especially cognizant and respectful of copyright regulations.  All content on FPinfomart is rights-cleared, which means that we have the content creator’s permission to resell that content and we pay royalties back to the content owner where agreed upon.

The rules of copyright are very well defined in most traditional media types – print, broadcast, etc.  However with user-generated content, especially in social media, the rules of copyright are still evolving.  What is the meaning, or even purpose, of copyright in a medium where the sole purpose of that medium is to share, and even republish, content?

While the future of copyright for social media content is still somewhat of a mystery, a certain etiquette has arisen regarding given credit where credit is due.  It’s the same code of conduct any student learns when creating his first formal research report – cite your sources.  Most content creators on mediums like Twitter, Facebook, etc. are hoping that their posts are spread by their followers – with the caveat that their contribution to the conversation is acknowledged.

As pointed out in the CNN article cited below, most social media platforms have utilities or protocols built right in to assist you with this – such as  Twitter’s “retweet” and Facebook’s “like.”

For more insight on this topic, take a look at the article cited (!) below.

“We’re not about to delve into the ins and outs of intellectual property law and copyright infringement and all that jazz. Nay, we’re here to talk about the much milder offense of sharing content without a nod to the ahead-of-the-curve person who shined a spotlight on it in the first place.”
